Welcome from the Chair of Governors
A Welcome Message from The Chair of Governors
Hello everyone, my name is Wayne Leatherbarrow. I am the Chair of Governors at St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School and I am delighted to welcome you to the Governors’ section of the school website.
We have an active Governing Body at St. Mary’s who work very closely with Mrs Hymers, her leadership team, all the staff at the school and the wider school community to make a positive contribution in supporting our school to be the best it can be.
As volunteers we have an important part to play in providing strategic leadership to ensure that the school delivers a good quality of education, acting as a critical friend to the Headteacher and ensuring accountability to the school community. We work in partnership with Headteacher and the school staff, taking an active role in monitoring the curriculum, finances and improvement plans for the school. We do not get involved in the day-to-day operation of the school; this is the responsibility of the Headteacher and her staff.
We are delighted that our school is recognised as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, providing the highest quality education and care for our children. We recognise and are proud of the enormous amount of hard work that Mrs Hymers and her team commit to maintaining standards, and the increasing challenges and pressures on the school, such as the recent impact of the Covid-19 pandemic; it is a tremendous achievement by everyone involved.
There are currently 12 governors at St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School, including parent governors, who are elected by the parents themselves, Foundation Governors, who are appointed by the Archdiocese of Liverpool and governors appointed by the Local Authority; all bring a wide set of skills to the Governing Body to contribute to supporting the school. You can find out more about each governor in this section of the web site.
We are always keen to hear from anyone who is interested in becoming a governor and of course, if you have and questions then please contact the school office.
Best regards,
Wayne Leatherbarrow
