Good morning and a BIG hello Year 3

Did you all have a good half term? I hope that you all had a lovely break and  are now ready to learn again.

I want to start today's blog with a MASSIVE SHOUT OUT to JACOB who has spent time completing some fantastic work on Antony Gormley. I am so pleased with your work Jacob and I love your mini sculptures. I've attached Jacob's work for you all to see. yes yesyes

Another MASSIVE SHOUT OUT to LIAM for his Gormley work too. Liam created his own sculpture out of recycled materials, papier-mache and paint. Liam has named him NHS Avatar. This is great work Liam. Well done.

If we had been back at school, this would have been your last half term in Year 3. You have missed lots of school already and it is therefore really important that you try to complete some of the home learning tasks, that I set you, every day. I know that some of you are working really hard, but I also know that some of you are not really doing as much as you could. If you want to be ready for life in Y4 in September, it is really important that you try your very best over the next few weeks.

Timestables: I know that you are probably sick of hearing me talk about these, but knowing your timestables is key to you becoming a successful mathematician. You only need to spend 15 mins a day on them. You don't have to use Rockstars, but it is a great way to learn your tables, as the program tracks your mistakes and includes more of the tables that you are getting wrong in order to help the facts stick in your brain. Don't forget too that this time next year you will be sitting a Timestables Check test, with all other Year 4 children across the country, to check how well you know your tables. You will have 6 seconds to answer each question. Rockstars times you, so you know how well you are doing.

Reading: I know that many of you are not reading regularly. Please do try to read for half an hour every day. Use the books on Purple Mash or choose a book that you already have at home. If you don't want to read during the day, read before bed time or whilst you are having a bath. I love to read in the bath laughIt is very relaxing.  I am going to attach a reading comprehension activity to the class blog every week for you to have a go at.

BBC Bitesize Daily Learning: You only need to look at the Maths and English Lessons today. The History lesson is all about the Romans and you will study this period of History in Y4. If you haven't completed your Ancient Greek History project, you could do this instead.

Maths -  In this lesson you will learn about equivalent fractions. Equivalent fractions are the same fraction written in different ways. You will use fraction walls, number lines and bar models to find equivalent fractions. This is an important skill for all the fraction work you will do in later years at school.

If you enjoyed this activity or if you would like to complete some more Equivalent Fraction Activities, I have attached some additional sheets to the blog.

English: Revises the rules of punctuating speech. There is a great Super Movers Activity to start the lesson. If you haven't used Super Movers before, they are a great way of keeping fit whilst learning.  If you can punctuate speech correctly in your writing, it will really add to its quality. I have added extra activity sheets to the blog on Inverted Commas too.

That's it for today - a nice easy day to welcome you all back cheeky

Take care

Mrs Hheart

P.S The Reading Comprehension activity will be attached to tomorrow's blog. wink
