A Big Welcome to Year 4

What a busy first few weeks in school!

The children in Year 4 have settled into their new class and made a good start on their current topic - The Stone Age to the Iron Age. They have started to learn about timelines, cave paintings and the tools and houses of people in the stone age.

Come and See

Our first Come and See topic is 'People'. The children have spent time thinking about their families and created their own family trees in class. They have looked at Jesus' family tree and spent time learning more about a number of people in Jesus' family. This has included learning about the stories of Abraham, Jacob and Joseph. As part of our rejoice and respond at the end of this topic the children planned a collective worship to celebrate their families and reflect on all of the things their families do for them for which they are grateful.

Literacy

In keeping with our theme of the Stone Age to the Iron Age the children have started to read 'Stig of the Dump'. They have used this as inspiration to write a character description about the caveman Stig, a setting description of the dump and a diary entry about one of Barney's adventures with Stig. Some of these excellent pieces of witing have been put on display in class.

Numeracy

The children have been looking at number and place value, addition and subtraction in numeracy. They have looked at how to order and compare numbers beyond 1000, to round to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000, to find 1000 more or less than a given number, to count in 25s and to use column addition and subraction. They have also worked on their reasoning and problem solving skills in weekly problem solving lessons.

Keep up the good work Year 4!
