Year 1 2023 - 2024

Mrs Duffy

Mrs Taylor

Welcome to Year 1

Hello from the Year 1 team!

In Year 1, we have two teachers Mrs Duffy (who works in Y1 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings) and Mrs Taylor (who works in Y1 on some Wednesday afternoons, Thursday and Friday).

The TAs in Year 1 are Miss Parr and Mrs Crompton (who works with us on Monday and Friday afternoons)

On a Friday, Sports For Kids teaches us P.E.

We will also  have an extra P.E. lesson on a Wednesday afternoon during some of the half terms throughout the year.  The whole school newsletter and a text from the office will inform you when these extra PE lessons will occur.

Things to remember ............

Named sports bottles filled with fresh water may be brought in and taken home everyday to be refilled.  No juice or cordial please but flavoured water is allowed.  Children may access these throughout the day when they are working at tasks.

Everyday, free fresh fruit or toast (payable) is available at morning snack time or alternatively children may bring in their own healthy snack.

Monday:
Return home reader and home reader diary to school. New reading books will be sent home for those children who have returned their book and dairy.  Please note that Monday is our timetabled slot in the library to exchange home reading books.  Whilst we will endeavour to exchange books that are returned late, this may not always be possible.

Wednesday:

There will be an additional PE lesson on some Wednesdays during designated half terms.  Please see the whole school newsletter for details regarding when Y1's Wednesday PE sessions will occur.

Friday:

Y1 PE is on a Friday.  Please see the newsletter for details regarding PE kit.  Children are to come to school in their PE kits when we have PE.

Homework and spellings will be sent home.  Completed homework may be returned on any day, but by the following Thursday at the latest.

As Y1 is the start of Key Stage 1, our aim is to encourage the children to develop their independence in all areas.  For this reason, we have a homework box and a home reading book box near to the Y1 door for the children to put their work and books in for exchange.  On a Monday and Thursday morning, the children are reminded and encouraged, upon entry into class, to place their reading books, homereader diaries and completed homework (in its folder) into the correct boxes.  We will also remind the class as a whole to check their bags for anything they may need to give to the teacher.  Adults do not empty the children's bags in Key Stage 1.

Newsletter can be viewed on our school's website.

Milk money - please pay electronically or speak to the school office.

Toast for snack please pay electronically or speak to the school office.
