Week ending 22nd September

Date: 20th Sep 2017 @ 12:43pm

Well it's the end of another very busy week in Year 1 and the children cannot wait for you to find out all that they have been up to....

Maths:

After doing lots of reading, writing and ordering of numbers we are now starting to learn what the digits in tens and numbers mean.  It is quite tricky to understand but we are beginning to learn that the 1 digit in teen numbers actually means one ten and not just one.  Don't worry though, we will return to this lots of times this year.

Science:

We have been learning the external body parts in our new topic of Marvellous Me.  We sang songs and played Simon Says and Hokey Kokey to help us identify the different parts.  After that, we drew around each others bodies and labelled the different parts.  We are super scientists!

Geography:

As part of our new topic, we are also doing a study of Billinge as our local area.  Over the coming weeks we will be going on an observational walk around our local area, mapping routes and discovering more about Billinge.  We will also be making decisions on how we think Billinge can be improved.  The date for our walk will be Thursday 28th September so please make sure you sign and return the permission letter before next Thursday. Thankyou.

Measuring:

Our brains were fizzing with excitement on Friday morning when Miss set us a challenge of finding out who the tallest and shortest person is in the class.  We had some amazing suggestions but we decided to go with Max and Adelaide's ideas. Max suggested lining all the girls up and asking them to stand back to back to find out who the tallest and shortest girls are. He then said we should do the same with the boys and then put the tallest girl/boy back to back to see who is the tallest and the shortest girl/boy back to back to see who is the shortest. What a fabulous idea!

Adelaide had a different suggestion that we should measure ourselves against a long strip of paper on the wall, marking where people's heads go up to.  We had such fun measuring one another!  Everyone also had to follow Adelaide's rule of taking their shoes off "to make it fair!" Fantastic!

Do you want to know the result of both ideas...........?

Emilia is the tallest person and Isla W is the shortest!

What a busy week we've had!  Looking forward to more fun with learning over the next few weeks.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!
