Good Morning Year 4!

I hope you didn’t find it too difficult getting back into your home learning yesterday. Are you ready for another busy day?

A huge well done to Ava, Deacon, Bronagh, Gabriel, Poppy, Emily, Iris and Reggie who have completed this week’s Times Tables Rock Star challenges already! How many more of you will complete them before the end of the week?

Following on from National Best Friends Day yesterday I have attached an acrostic poem template to this blog. An acrostic is a poem is where the first of each line spells out a word. Can you write a poem about Friends? Think about the qualities that make a good friend and write about those.

I hope that lots of you made a start on the book I posted yesterday. If you did, are you enjoying it? What do you think of the characters? Do you have a favourite yet? You could post on the blog to tell me what you think of the story. Read a few pages a day and you should easily be able to read a couple of chapters each week.

Today’s BBC Bitesize English lesson is looking at using dictionaries effectively. This is a skill that we use a lot in class, we have used dictionaries to check the meanings of words and we use them to check spellings in our writing. I have attached some dictionary activities for you to try. If you don’t have a dictionary at home don’t worry, Collins have an online dictionary that you can use. https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english

If you are in Monday or Tuesday’s reading groups try worksheet 1, if you are in Wednesday’s reading group try worksheet sheet 2 and if you are in Thursday or Friday’s reading groups try worksheet 3. I have also attached a blank dictionary skills activity, you could use this to record any words you find while reading that you are unsure of the meaning of.

Maths today is looking at dividing by 10. I think that most of you will find this quite easy so I have attached a PowerPoint to this blog which goes through multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. Once you have looked at the PowerPoint have a go at the activity I have attached to the blog. If you sometimes find this tricky have a go at the first worksheet, if you find this quite straightforward have a go at the second worksheet and if you would like a challenge have a go at worksheet three. I have also attached a blank place value grid to help you with your calculations.

Today’s final lesson is a geography lesson all about biomes. Biomes are areas of the planet with similar climates, plants and animals. Examples of biomes are rainforests and deserts. This is a topic that you will look at next year with Miss Davies, just think how impressed she will be if you already know what a biome is!

There is a new music lesson on the St Helens Music Service website for anyone who is enjoying practising their flute at home. All of the login details can be found on a previous blog titled Music Lessons.

Finally, don’t forget that you can post in the Purple Mash blog to let everyone know about all of the fun activities you are doing at home.

Keep working hard and I will talk to you again tomorrow,

Miss Gradwell

P.S. Have a look at the pictures I have attached of the work Florence has completed at home. She was inspired by yesterday’s history lesson to create a wanted poster for Boudicca and she has made a friendship poster to celebrate Best Friends Day.

Keep emailing your work to school, I really enjoy looking at the activities you have been completing at home!
