Spring Term 2- Week Five

Date: 23rd Mar 2023 @ 3:55pm

Hi everyone,

We read Titch by Pat Hutchins this week. We talked about how far we've come since starting school. Some children commented on how large some of the toys appeared to them in September, but how much smaller they appear now. In keeping with the theme of 'Titch,' the children enjoyed singing 'Faith as Small as a Mustard Seed.’ The children also did an excellent job of writing about their favourite part of the story.

In phonics, we reviewed the sounds 'oo,' 'oo (book),' 'ar,', ‘or’, ‘ur’ and ‘ow’, and learned the tricky words ‘all’ and ‘are’. The children have continued to have fun participating in various activities to help them consolidate their phonic knowledge.  Please try to review all Level 2 and 3 sounds with your children at home. This revision will boost their confidence while also improving their phonic skills. Parents/Carers, the children have been given purple handwriting books to practise letter formation at home. Every week, we will ask your child to practise forming various letters. Please return handwriting books no later than Wednesday so that we can set them up and resend them on Friday.

In maths, we explored 3D shapes. We looked at cylinders, cubes, cuboids, and cones and had a lot of fun going on a 3D shape hunt around our school. The children have been given a home learning activity, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning.

On Wellie Walk, we had a great time. We had a lot of fun picking up litter with litter pickers and taking care of our environment. We talked about how litter affects the environment and that it is dangerous to pick up litter without using gloves or a litter picker. We promise to always find a bin to throw our litter away.

Mrs. Middleton, a dentist, stopped by our class!  We had fun cleaning model teeth with toothbrushes and dressing up as dentists. We can now talk about how important it is to maintain our teeth and what happens if we do not.

We wrapped up our busy week with a birthday party for Miss Berks. We had a lot of fun making classroom decorations, eating party food, and playing party games. I'm sure we will all be getting a good night's sleep tonight.

We hope you have a relaxing weekend in preparation for the final week of Spring Term 2!
