Spring Term 1- Week Three

Date: 20th Jan 2023 @ 4:16pm

Hi everyone,

What an exciting week we have had! We began the week by reading the story of the Noisy House and challenged ourselves to write a sentence about our favourite part of the story. We have also begun construction on a favourite room in our homes using junk modelling materials. The children are fantastic builders!

We reviewed the digraphs ai', 'ee', igh', oo', and '00' in phonics to ensure that the sounds were consolidated. The children have been given a letter formation sheet, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. Feel free to use your imagination to practise letter formation (writing with paint, foam or even writing in the mud with a twig, etc.)

We looked at the number four this week in maths. We are having a great time discovering that all numbers are made up of smaller numbers. The children have really enjoyed pushing themselves by writing number sentences and even drawing part-part whole models to demonstrate the composition of four. The children have been given a fun maths activity, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school.  There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning.

This week, we also celebrated Chinese New Year. The children had a wonderful time trying Chinese food, listening to and dancing to traditional Chinese music, and participating in craft activities.

'Wellie Walk Wednesday' this week was a little different! We spent some time outside in the snow, observing how the weather had changed our surroundings. The children considered all of the animals out in the cold and how we could care for them, especially the birds who will have a difficult time finding food. Therefore, we decided to make some bird feeders, some children even made birds' nests. We cannot wait to hang our bird feeders on the trees when they're ready. Watch this space!

We hope that you have a wonderful weekend,
