Spring 2- Week One!

Date: 24th Feb 2023 @ 10:47am

Hi everyone,

We have had a jam-packed first week back! We enjoyed reading Jasper's Beanstalk this week. We discussed what plants require to survive, the plant's life cycle, and labelled plant parts! The children also created an excellent set of instructions for planting a seed.

This week in phonics, we learned the final two sounds that we will learn in Reception, 'ure' and 'er'.  We are very proud of the children's efforts, they are working so hard!  Over the next few weeks, we will revisit Level 3 sounds to ensure that they are embedded. Please try to review all Level 2 and 3 sounds (given out at parent evenings ) with your children at home. This revision will help them gain confidence and improve their phonic skills. The children have been given a letter formation sheet, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. Feel free to use your imagination to practise letter formation (writing with paint, foam or even writing in the mud with a twig, etc.)

We looked at the numbers six, seven, and eight in maths. We are working hard to gain a thorough understanding of the number system. The children were fantastic mathematicians, representing the numbers on ten frames, subitising and having fun with practical equipment to investigate the composition of these numbers. The children have been given some fun home learning activities, which help to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning.

Birchley's Garden Centre opened its doors this week. The children are having a fabulous time making flowers, recommending plants, and acting as shopkeepers.  We can hear some fantastic vocabulary being used in the provision!

We had a great time planting some beans during this week's Wellie Walk. We prepared the environment for planting by raking the soil and locating appropriate planting locations. The children had a lot of fun planting beans in the soil outside and in classroom pots. We can't wait to see how they grow! Keep an eye out for updates.

We have started our new topic 'Gathering' in Come and See. This week, we talked about how much fun it is to be together at school and participate in group activities. We have scheduled a church visit with Father Paul and are very excited to go.

Have a lovely weekend!
