Home Learning Monday 22nd June

Date: 13th Jun 2020 @ 8:23pm

Good Morning Everyone

I hope that you all had a lovely weekend and you managed to enjoy some of the sunshine.

I want to start today's blog with a  MASSIVE SHOUT OUT TO THE 5 GIRLS who worked so hard last week on Rock Stars to beat the boys. I am so proud of you girls. yes

The final score was 7060 to the girls (Sophia, Heidi, Annabel, Addie and Isla L) and 3875 to the boys ( Liam, Harry, Joseph, Jacob B, Harrison, Jacob R, Max, Evan and Tyler).

Don't be too downhearted boys - you were all winners in the end - as you now know your times tables much better than you did at the start of school closing and if you all keep playing, you will definitely ace the times tables check at the end of Y4. laugh

Just like last week,  I am setting you a week of work.

I am going to set all of the work today and then you can choose what you want to do and when you want do it.

I will still blog everyday, but it will just be to say hello and to remind you of the tasks you need to complete.

I would love it if you could send in some examples of your work.

Try to choose 3 activities every day to complete - as well as spending 30mins reading and 15 mins on times tables.

It is National Sports Week too this week, so try to take part in some sporting activities everyday. I will send you some ideas as the week goes on. Sport4Kids (who work in school with us) will set some home challenges for you to have a go at and I will forward them to you as soon as I get them.

A suggested timetable could be: (The details of the activities can be found below the suggested timetable.)

MondayMaths, English and Design Technology. (Build your own mobile in the style of Calder) 15mins of times tables and half an hour of reading before bedtime. A sporting activity. Send in your photos of the mobiles you make.

Tuesday - Maths, English and History. (Research into a famous historical event that has taken place since the year 2000 and produce an information poster or PowerPoint about the event.) 15 mins of times tables and half an hour of reading before bedtime. A sporting activity.

Wednesday - Maths, English and Science. (Light and Dark) 15mins of times tables and half an hour of reading before bedtime. A sporting activity.

Thursday - Maths, English ((Refugee Reading Comprehension) and History. (Complete your information poster or PowerPoint). Send me a photograph of your poster or send in your PowerPoint for me to share with the rest of Y3. 15mins of times tables and half an hour of reading before bedtime. A sporting activity.

Friday - Maths,  SPAG (The Mystery of the Egg and Spoon Race -  a puzzle for you to solve.) Complete any unfinished work from the week.  A sporting activity.

Activity Details:                                   No Bitesize this week!

We are having a change this week as the Bitesize Learning either covers things that you have already done like angles/parallel/perpendicular lines or covers topics/themes that you will learn about next year e.g. rivers.  You can complete the Bitesize activities if you prefer - it's your choice!

Maths and English:   For your Maths and English this week, choose activities from the Activity Booklet that I have attached. You don't need to print out the booklet, you can choose the page you need and leave it open on screen for you to look at. You can then record your answers in your home learning book. I've attached the answers too, so that you can mark your own work. Try to spend at least half an hour on a Maths task and half an hour on an English task.

History:  Choose a famous, historical event that has happened since the year 2000 e.g. The 2012 London Olympics, VE Day celebrations etc. and then research into the event.  Produce an information poster about the event. You could draw/create your own poster or you could use IT to help you. If you know how to use PowerPoint you could create a PowerPoint all about the event.

Design Technology: Use everyday materials to build the mobile that you designed last week, using the work of Calder as your inspiration. If you haven't completed last week's technology task, you will need to complete the planning task first.  (The attached sheets will help you to think of an idea. Remember to sketch your idea before making your mobile.) Take a photograph of your finished mobile and send it in to me at school.

Science: This week you will start to explore Light in Science. This week's lesson introduces you to light and dark and the activity challenges you to sort pictures into 2 categories - those that are light sources and those that are not light sources.

Reading Comprehension: Last Week was National Refugee Week. I have attached a Reading Comprehension activity to the blog all about National Refugee Week.  As always, the reading comprehension has three levels and it is aimed at all of Key Stage 2, so as a Y3 child, try the first text and questions. If you are a very good reader, try the second passage.

SPAG: Whilst it is National Sports Week this week, why not have a go at The Mystery of the Egg and Spoon Race Puzzle. It challenges you to use your Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar skills to solve the mystery. I've attached the answer sheet for you, so you can see if you were correct. :) I think you'll enjoy this. laugh

That's it for now children. I will try to ring some more of you today to have a chat. I know that many of you are finding it hard being at home now and that you are sick of home learning. Do try to stay motivated. angel

It is really important to do some work each day, so that when you start Y4 in September, you won't find the work too difficult.

Take care Y3 and I'll be in touch again tomorrow

P.S. If you like a challenge - have a go at the Paper Table Challenge that I've attached to the blog. I challenged the Y6 bubble to complet this challenge on Friday and their designs were not very successful cheeky Can you do any better? If you do, take a photgraph and send it in, so that I can show the Y6s.

The challenge is very simple. Using 8 pieces of newspaper, sellotape and some card ( to be used for the tabe top only), can you build a table strong enough to hold a thick book? The table must be a least 8 inches or 20 cms tall. You cannot stick the legs of the table down onto a surface.
