Back to School!

Date: 4th Nov 2022 @ 7:46am

Hi everyone!

We are so happy to be back at school! We have had an extremely busy week.

This week, we have learned the sounds h, b, f and l. We love saying the rhymes as we write the letters! The children have been given a letter formation sheet, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. Feel free to use your imagination to practise letter formation (writing with paint, foam or even writing in the mud with a twig, etc.)  We have also been learning the tricky words, “the’, ‘I’, ‘no’, ‘go’ and ‘the’. The children are working so hard to develop their reading skills. We are super proud of them!

We have learnt all about the Festival of Lights, Diwali. We explored the Hindui faith, listened to the story of Rama and Sita, made rangoli patterns using coloured rice, painted mehndi patterns, and used saltdough to create our own Diya lamps. We are excited to take our lamps home once they have dried.

In maths, we have looked at different ways of representing the numbers one, two and three. We have had lots of fun using natural objects to represent different amounts. The children have been given a number activity, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school.  There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning.

We have been working on developing our gross motor and fine motor skills this week. We have had lots of fun scooping out and washing pumpkin seeds in preparation for planting in May. We've also been releasing spiders from ice cubes!!!

During Wellie Walk, we continued to explore hibernation. We checked in on Spikey who had found a quiet space to hibernate. The children also enjoyed playing leaf whispers. A special leaf had secret messages to tell us all. We passed the leaf around the circle while whispering the secret message to one another. We had to be very quiet because we could only hear one thing at a time. When the leaf arrived at the last friend in the circle, they said aloud what the message was. Sometimes the message changed! We found this very funny.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend,

Miss Berks and Mrs McDonald
