Autumn Term Two- Week Two

Date: 10th Nov 2022 @ 1:32pm

Hi everyone,

Wow, another busy week! We have had a great time discussing bonfire night. We talked about what we could hear, see, and smell. This was recorded on a fireworks template. We also made chocolate sparklers, which were a hit. While making our sparklers, we talked about the process of changing states. The children also had fun making their own firework artwork out of chalk and glitter.

In phonics, we have looked at the double letters ‘ff’, ‘ll’ and ‘ss’.  We love saying the rhymes as we write the letters! The children have been given a letter formation sheet, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. Feel free to use your imagination to practise letter formation (writing with paint, foam or even writing in the mud with a twig, etc.)  We have continued to learn the tricky words, ‘the’, ‘I’, ‘no’ and ‘go’. The children have had a lot of fun writing these words on sticky notes and putting them around the classroom!

Ralph, our reading bear, has gone to visit his first home! Someone will take Ralph home for a week every Monday to read stories to him. Your child could read a favourite story or their home reader. There is no need to record any reading your child does with Ralph; simply enjoy.

In maths, we looked at comparing numbers one, two and three. We also sang songs about counting on and counting backwards. When we count backwards, we understand that each number is one less than the previous number. The children have been given a number activity, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school.  There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning.

During Wellie Walk Wednesday, we made clay hedgehogs. We made them and then went outside to find them suitable places to hibernate. The children enjoyed playing another game of leaf whispers.  Please send into school a hat and a pair of gloves as winter approaches.

We have continued to learn about Hinduism in Come and See. We looked at places of worship and discussed how temples and churches differ and how they are similar. Some children enjoyed using blocks to build a temple!  We have also spent time remembering the brave soldiers who fought and continue to fight for peace. We read the story 'Where the Poppies Are' and created some lovely poppy artwork.

We hope that you have a lovely weekend
