Autumn Term Two- Week Seven

Date: 15th Dec 2022 @ 3:45pm

Hi everyone,

We are having a great time preparing for Christmas. The children have had a lot of fun completing Christmas reading challenges, making Christmas cards, decorating placemats for Christmas dinner, and participating in various Christmas craft activities. Father Christmas and his elf even paid the children a visit! We have also continued to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.

In phonics, we have learned the digraph ‘oo’ and the tricky word 'my'. We will continue to review recently taught sounds and tricky words next week. The children have been given a Christmas task booklet which contains some fun, festive phonics activities. There is no need to return the booklet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can.

In maths, we looked at shapes with four sides. We discussed squares and rectangles, using language to describe their properties. The children have had a lot of fun figuring out what shapes they can make by combining squares, rectangles, and triangles. We also enjoyed making Snowman pictures out of various 2D shapes. The children have been given a Christmas task booklet which contains some magical, maths activities. There is no need to return the booklet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can.

In Come and See, we have completed the topic 'Birthdays'. We took some quiet time to reflect on what we had learned during this special topic: Advent and the significance of the Advent wreath, as well as the anticipation of the birth of baby Jesus. We also enjoyed singing Away in A Manger.

We were unable to go outside for our Wellie Walk due to the weather conditions. We did, however, enjoy listening to a lovely winter story and drinking hot chocolate with marshmallows. The children had a great time and felt very festive. We also discussed winter and the importance of caring for wildlife. We considered how difficult it will be for birds to find food while the ground is covered in snow and frost. We talked about how we could help them in finding food and therefore decided to make bird feeders when we return to school in the new year.

Finally, we wrapped up the week with our Nativity performance. We are so proud of you children. You beautifully retold the story of the First Christmas while singing your hearts out. We have a lot of future actors in the class. Thank you for all your help, parents/carers. We are extremely grateful.

We hope that you have a wonderful, restful weekend.
