Arts Week- Haiku Poetry

Class: Year 6 Year: 2016 - 17

The children enjoyed exploring "haiku"- a traditional form of Japanese poetry. We found out that haiku poems consist of 3 lines. The first and last lines of a haiku have 5 syllables and the middle line has 7 syllables. The theme of these poems is often linked to nature or the seasons, but doesn’t have to be.

The children wrote their own haiku poems- and even wrote the titles and their names in Japanese!
