Good Morning Year 3
Did you all have a good weekend? I hope you did. The weather wasn't very nice was it - but I hope you managed to spend some time outside.
I am posting all of your work again on today's blog, so that you can choose your activities each day. I am not even going to put up a suggested timetable for you. Just try to do some reading and times tables every day and then select a couple of activities to have a go at.
We are not going to use Bitesize Learning again this week - just use the activities attached to the blog.
I've attached the Maths and English Activity Work Booklet again from last week (with the answers) for those of you who didn't start it or for those of you who didn't finish it. The booklet contains some really good activities that will keep your brains ticking over until you return to school.
I've also attached a Y3/4 Common Exception Spelling List for you to have a look at. The government says that by the end of Y4 you should be able to spell the words on the list. Lots of the words are very tricky. How many of them can you already spell? Test yourself. If you can't spell them all correctly, now is a great time to start learning them. You could learn 2 a day for example.
The rest of the work this week is linked to Children's Arts Week. The theme this week is The Natural World. If you had been in school Y3, you would have been learning about the artist Georgia O'Keeffe. You would have spent time exploring her work, which links really well into the Natural World theme of Arts Week, as Georgia is famous for her very close up paintings of flowers. I've attached a PowerPoint to the blog that tells you all about Georgia O'Keeffe. Have a look at her work on Google Images too
Literacy - Writing Task: Research into the life of Georgia O'Keeffe and create a factfile, PowerPoint or poster of her life. ( I would love it if you sent me a photograph of your work or a copy of your factfile or PowerPoint.) Think carefully about how you set your work out. Try to be make it eye-catching and informative.
Reading Comprehension: There is a Reading Comprehension Booklet attached all about Georgia O'Keeffe. Same Reading Comprehension rules apply - if you find reading a challenge - read the first text and answer the first set of questions. If you read well - try the second set. If you want a real challenge - have a go at the final text and questions.
Spellings: Test yourself on the Common Exception Words. Challenge yourself to learn at least 2 new words a day.
Maths: There are lots of activities to have a go at in the booklet or you can try the following attached activities on symmetry. I have chosen symmetry as you can find lots of examples of symmetry in the Natural World (which is the theme for Children's Arts Week)
Purple Mash 2do - I have set a Lines of Symmetry 2do for you to have a go at.
Art Tasks: 1) Using O'Keeffe's work as your inspiration, can you create your own close up picture of a flower. You could use a flower from your garden or one of Georgia's paintings as a starting point. You don't need to fit the whole flower onto your paper - she didn't! Use paints, chalks, coloured pencils, crayons or pastels. Remember to use bright, vibrant colours. Send me a photograph of your work.
2) Try taking close up photographs of flowers and leaves in your garden. Print them out and them cut them out and arrange them onto a piece of paper to make a colourful, floral collage. Send me a photgraph of your work.
3) Using your knowledge of Alexander Calder, from the last 2 weeks, could you create a hanging flower mobile?
Hopefully you will enjoy the activities this week. I look forward to seeing your work.
Take care
Mrs H
P.S. Whilst it is Children's Arts Week, I've attached a couple of art activities for you to have a go at. One is the instructions to make an origami butterfly and the other is a set of Art and Design Challenge Cards. These cards set you little challenges e.g. Can you draw using both hands at the same time? Can you draw what 'angry' looks like? Have Fun
