Autumn Term- Week Three
Date: 18th Nov 2022 @ 7:57am
Hi everyone,
What another great week we have had in Reception!
In phonics, we have learned the sounds ‘j’, ‘v’, ‘w’ and ‘x’. We love saying the rhymes as we write the letters! The children have been given a letter formation sheet, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. Feel free to use your imagination to practise letter formation (writing with paint, foam or even writing in the mud with a twig, etc.) We have continued to revise the tricky words, ‘the’, ‘I’, ‘no’ and ‘go’. The children are having fun completing various phonics challenges in the classroom. We are phonics superstars!
Ralph, our reading bear, has gone to visit his second home! Someone will take Ralph home for a week every Monday to read stories to him. Your child could read a favourite story or their home reader. There is no need to record any reading your child does with Ralph; simply enjoy.
In maths, we looked at the composition of numbers one, two and three and now understand all numbers are made up of smaller numbers. We enjoyed using different equipment, such as numicon, number blocks and counting bears to develop our understanding of addition. The children have been given a number activity, which helps to reinforce the work they have been doing in school. There is no need to return the sheet to school, so please just do what you can and when you can. It would be lovely if you could upload a photograph of your child's work to Evidence Me so we can celebrate their learning.
We like being outside and are fascinated by how the environment changes. We went on another Autumn hunt during Wednesday's Wellie Walk, but this time with a checklist! We had a great time completing an Autumn hunt in pairs. We looked everywhere for wild mushrooms and were overjoyed when we found some! We emphasised the importance of not eating any mushrooms that we see outside. After we finished the hunt, we discussed what we saw. Finally, after such a long wait, our salt dough hedgehogs are dry. We are hoping to find a place for them to hibernate next week.
In Come and See, we looked at the Jewish faith, Judaism, and explored the significance of Hanukkah. The children enjoyed making menorahs, playing a game of dreidel, and trying on kippahs. We love learning about other faiths and celebrations.
We have begun practising our Christmas nativity songs, and they are very catchy! The children enjoyed listening to the story of the First Christmas and are excited to act it out.
We hope that you have a wonderful weekend,
Miss Berks and Mrs McDonald
