Good Morning Year 4!

How are you this morning? Did anyone manage to write an acrostic poem about friends yesterday? If you did I would love to see them, why not email them to school or post them on the Year 4 blog?

Have you all been exercising regularly? I have attached some Joe Wicks exercise cards to this blog, they explain how to complete a series of exercises and how to put them together as an exercise routine. I also know that there are a lot of you that enjoy dancing. The Kidz Bop YouTube channel has a huge amount of dance along videos that I think you would enjoy. Just remember that you should always ask a parents permission before going onto YouTube.

BBC Bitesize’s English lesson today is building on the dictionary work for yesterday by looking at how to use a thesaurus effectively. If you don’t have a thesaurus at home here is an online thesaurus you can use. https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english-thesaurus

I have attached a PowerPoint to this blog which explains how to use a thesaurus and I have also added two activities for you to have a go at. Activity one asks you to look for synonyms of given words. Can you remember what a synonym is? Synonyms are words with the same meaning, for example giant and large. There are three versions of the worksheet, if you are in Monday or Tuesday’s reading groups try worksheet 1, if you are in Wednesday’s reading group try worksheet sheet 2 and if you are in Thursday or Friday’s reading groups try worksheet 3.

Activity two is about shades of meaning activity for those of you who would like a challenge. For this activity you need to find 4 synonyms for the word in the centre of each ladder. Then, you need to put the words in order based on how strong you think they are as adjectives. For example, if someone is worried and someone else is terrified who is the most scared?

Today’s maths lesson is looking at hundredths. A hundredth arises when a whole is split into 100 equal pieces. A hundredth can be written as 1/100 or 0.01. I have attached an activity sheet which askes you to identify how many hundredths are in each image. The Bitesize lesson is focussing on problem solving with hundredths so will offer you more of a challenge.

The final lesson today is all about renewable and non-renewable energy. This links to the electricity topic that we covered before Easter. It will teach you about all of the different sources of energy.

Deacon and his sister Maizie emailed yesterday to tell me and Mrs Naylor all about their first day back at home school. They have been very busy doing their lessons, baking bread and walking their dog. They also spent time thinking about friendship and the qualities of a good friend then made a poster of their ideas. I have attached a picture of their poster for you to have a look at.

I am really pleased to see that even more of you have completed this week’s times tables sessions, keep working hard and I will talk to you again tomorrow.

P.S. Tomorrow’s English activity is linked to chapter one of Roman Rescue, so make sure you’ve read it!
