Good Morning Year 4!

How are you today? I hope you all had a good day yesterday. Did any of you see the blog I posted about the first Sports 4 Kids challenge? I’m sorry it was so late when I posted it. If you didn’t see it yesterday you can always try it today along with today’s challenge.

Today’s Sport’s 4 Kids challenge is a penalty shoot-out. Use jumpers, cones or anything else you can find to create a goal and challenge your parents or siblings to see who the top goal scorer is.

Here is the video explaining today's challenge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmV0NKogPPQ

The BBC Bitesize maths lesson today is looking at how to compare and order money. This means thinking carefully about amounts and deciding if one is less than <, greater than > or equal to = the other.

165 pence = £1.65

£1.32 < £1.89

95 pence > pence

I have attached a PowerPoint that explains this in a little more detail and an activity for you to have a go at. Just like yesterday, there are 3 worksheets to choose from.

The English lesson today is all about authors. It explains what an author does and also looks at the reasons why people enjoy reading. The comprehension skill I would like you to focus on today is considering why an author may have chosen to use a certain word or phrase and the effect these can have for the reader. This includes spotting examples of ambitious vocabulary and figurative language, and explaining how the words/phrases that have been used add to the meaning of the text. I have attached a PowerPoint and worksheet to help you practise this skill.

The final lesson today is a geography lesson all about rivers. It was not that long ago that I set you work about rivers and asked you to create a rivers information poster. Use today’s lesson as a chance to see what you can remember. I have attached some river activities to this blog for you to have a go at too.

Enjoy the sports challenges and keep working hard!

I will talk to you again tomorrow.

P.S. I have set up a boys vs girls challenge on Times Tables Rock Stars – Who do you think will win?
