Reception News

Welcome back everyone.

We hope you had an enjoyable half term. We have started our new traditional tales topic, Once Upon a Time… This half term we will be exploring lots of familiar stories like The Three Little Pigs and The Gingerbread Man.

Our focus story this week was Little Red Riding Hood. The children have enjoyed dressing up as the characters and acting out the story in their play.

In our writing, we have helped Little Red Riding Hood write a shopping list so that she could buy Granny some lovely treats to make her feel better.

In maths we have discovered the ‘little numbers’ that make the bigger numbers 1, 2 and 3. We now know that 1 and 1 and 2 and 0 are the little numbers that make 2, 1 and 2 and 3 and 0 and 1 and 1 and 1 are the little numbers that make 3.

Phonics

I have attached some words to practise recognising and reading words with our new sounds from this week!

We have now finished Phase 2 phonics. Next week we will be using our phonics sessions to consolidate and revisit all of our sounds and tricky words. We will also be spending some time with each of the children to see how much progress they have made.

In the spirit of Bonfire Night, we have explored the instruments to recreate the different sounds of fireworks.

Messages

Thank you for sending your Autumn Challenge photos. They are absolutely fantastic and are now on our Autumn display for everyone to see!

I attached some Phonics Guidence to a blog a few weeks ago. I have now attached it to our class page so that it can be more easily accessed. It's full of ideas and games to help support your child with phonics.

That’s all for this week! Have a great weekend.

From,

The Reception Team
