Reception News - 20th October

Date: 20th Oct 2017 @ 6:56pm

Hi everyone,

Well that’s it! Our first half-term done and dusted. Can you believe we've been at school for seven weeks already? What a very long way we’ve come since September. Miss Davies is so proud of us all.

During our last week we have read the story Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson. In the story, little monkey asks butterfly to help him find his mum.  He’s so happy when he’s reunited with mum and dad at the end of the story. We noticed that little monkey’s family was different to butterfly’s family and that got us thinking about our own families and what makes them the same or different to others.

We have been writing about how we spend time together as a family. We tried really hard to write all the sounds we could hear. We were really good at telling Miss Davies what we had written.

In maths, we had to help little monkey find his friends. We had to use positional language to describe each animal’s hiding place. The pig was on the grass. The hen was under the bridge. The dog was behind the tree. We were really good at this game!

In our prayer times this week, we have been thinking about how special our families are to us. We talked about being part of God’s family and sang He’s got the whole world in His hands.

Come and See

It was Hinduism week and we have been celebrating Diwali. We heard all about the story of Rama and Sita and how the evil Ravana was defeated! We made some diva lamps and we were really good at retelling the story in our role play. Heidi brought in some traditional Indian clothes for us to look at. We thought the sari was very beautiful!

Phonics

This week we looked at the sounds h – down to the horse’s hooves and over his back b – down the laces, round the toe; f – down the stem and draw the leaves and ff – it’s two letters together but they only make one sound Miss Davies said we are getting really good at our tricky words. Can we complete another tricky word challenge? Can we play tricky word bingo? Our tricky words this week are my, no, go and into.

Bucket Filling

Miss Davies says she's blown away by our kindness towards each other. We put a huge smile on her face. This week Lucas said lovely kind words to Caitlin, Heidi helped Grace with her buttons and Malachy celebrated Niamh's hard work in phonics.
