Oral Rehearsal of Number Bonds and Learning through I.T.

Date: 15th Nov 2020 @ 8:33pm

Hello Everyonesmiley!

I just wanted to let you know about some optional things that your child can be doing at home to help them with their work in class.  As well as learning and practising their weekly phonics homework that was sent home as a pack at the start of term, reading their home reader and completing their written homework that will be sent home on 16th November, again as a pack, there are some other optional activities that your child can complete.

Firstly, you can help your child to continue to learn all the addition facts to 10 using oral rehearsal games.

E.g. What do you add to 7 to make 10?

E.g. Adult:  Cheeky cheeky 2  Child:  Cheeky cheeky 8

E.g. Show the child 6.  They show you 4.

This can also be done with any other addition facts. E.g. addition facts to 3 4 5 6 7 8 and 9 and beyond

E.g. Adding to 9:

E.g. What do you add to 4 to make 9?

E.g. Adult:  Cheeky cheeky 1  Child:  Cheeky cheeky 8

E.g. Show the child 6.  They show you 3.

E.g. Adding to 7:

E.g.  What do you add to 2 to make 7?

E.g. Adult:  Cheeky cheeky 1  Child:  Cheeky cheeky 6

E.g. Show the child 4.  They show you 3.

Etc.

Secondly, you can encourage your child to go on Numbots which is a great number program on the internet that school has subscribed to.  It helps them to develop their instant recall of number facts.  I have showed the children the software in class and already everyday lots of them tell me that they have been accessing it.  If your child has not yet had a go, you can find their username and password in their home learning book and just Google Numbots.  You will probably need the school’s postcode too which is WN57QJ.

Thirdly, to supplement the weekly spellings that your child receives for homework, I am in the process of adding some phonics activities on to their Homework My City on Education City.

However, at present, the software is not allowing me to publish all of the My CitiesTherefore, if your child’s Homework My City does not contain any activities, please leave it a week or so then try again by which time, hopefully, the computer glitch may have been sorted and I may have had chance to activate the missing My Cities.

The children can access these activities on a laptop or home computer using the Education City username and password which you will find in the home learning book that was sent home with your child before half term.

To access the activities:

•        Log on to Education City using your username and password and don’t forget to input the country- England.

•        On the Home Page, click on the green homework icon

•        Click on the homework tab

•        Click on your Letters and Sounds folder

•        Choose from the activities that are in your folder

•        Complete activity

•        The program will show you (and me!) your scores and corrections

•        See if you can beat your previous score

Hope your children find these activities fun!
