Good Morning Year 4!

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and were able to enjoy some sunshine after all of the rain at the end of last week. Hopefully we will have lots of nice weather this week so you will be able to spend some time outside as well as completing some home learning tasks.

The BBC Bitesize English lessons this week start by focussing on reading comprehension skills. It is really important that we keep up our comprehension skills, so each day this week I am going to post a PowerPoint and short text and questions linked to a comprehensions skill. Today is all about retrieval questions. Retrieval questions require you to read the text carefully to retrieve facts and key information.

The maths focus on BBC Bitesize this week is money. Today is all about pounds and pence. Can you remember how many pennies there are in one pound?

100 pence = £1                     150 pence = £1.50

200 pence = £2                     287 pence = £2.87

Have a look at the PowerPoint I have attached to this blog then have a go at the activity for extra practise. I have also attached the answers so you can check your work once you have finished.

The final BBC Bitesize lesson today is looking at the Maya civilisation. The Maya civilisation began long ago in a place called 'Mesoamerica'. This vast area is made up of Mexico and part of Central America. This is not part of our Year 4 curriculum but it is an interesting topic for anyone who is interested in history.

Keep an eye on the Purple Mash Blog as some of you have been posting work on there. Poppy posted a fantastic limerick on Friday, have a look and tell her what you think.

Finally for today here are your weekly reminders to read and practise your times tables every day. Keep reading Roman Rescue and let me know what you think about the story by commenting on the Purple Mash Blog.

Have a lovely day, work hard and have some fun too. I will talk to you again tomorrow.

Miss Gradwell

P.S. Sports 4 Kids are setting you a different sports challenge each day this week. Once they have sent today's challenge I will post it in a separate blog.
