Good Morning Year 4!

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a lovely and relaxing weekend and are ready for this week’s learning tasks.

Carry on reading Roman Rescue. Try to read another couple of chapters this week. I will attach a chapter review sheet to this blog, so you can reflect on what you have read and what you think might happen next.

Spend a little bit of time each day practising your times tables. Your times on Times Tables Rock Stars are continuing to improve which is brilliant! Keep up the hard work!

BBC Bitesize is focussing on decimals this week. How much can you remember from when we covered decimals in class? This week will give you plenty of opportunities to recap our work on decimals. Today’s lesson is looking at how to write decimals. I have attached a PowerPoint to this blog that explains how to convert between fractions and decimals. I have also attached a booklet to today’s blog which has maths activities for every day this week. Try the first activity today. I have also attached an answers and guidance booklet. Try Monday's activity from the booklet today.

Today’s English lesson is exploring the features that make up a poem. There are many different types of poetry and there are no set rules for how to write a poem. This week’s English lessons will explore poetry. I have attached a PowerPoint that explains some of the different features you may find in poems. Each day this week I will also attach a poem that I like for you to read. Today’s poem is called Silly Old Baboon. After you have read the poem why don’t you post on the Purple Mash blog and let me know what you think of this poem?

Today’s final BBC lesson is a history lesson. It is looking at why the Romans wanted to invade Scotland. The Romans wanted Scotland because:

  • Scotland had valuable natural resources, like lead, silver and gold
  • the Romans could get rich by charging taxes to the people they conquered and forcing them to become slaves
  • the Romans came for ‘the glory of Rome’ and wanted to conquer new lands and make their empire even bigger and better

However, Scotland was controlled by fierce warrior tribes who did not want the Romans to take over their land. Have a go at the quiz at the end of the Bitesize lesson to see what you have learnt.

Finally for today, have a look at Iris’ Water Safety poster and Florence’s RNLI poster. They both emailed me their work and they have done some fantastic work! Remember to email me at school (stmaryrcbp@sthelens.org.uk) with anything you have completed, I really enjoy looking at your work.

Take care and keep up the hard work! I will talk to you again tomorrow.
