Investigating shadows

Date: 21st Mar 2017 @ 5:03pm

This week, we have been investigating shadows in Science.

First of all, we went outside with some chalk and we drew around our shadows. Miss Barnes encouraged us to strike a pose before drawing. We tried different positions and then once our shadows had been traced, we tried to recreate the positions.

Next, we were each given a whiteboard, torch and opaque object. We turned off all the lights in our classroom to complete our investigation. Below you will find some images of our investigation.

We found out that when an object moves closer to a light source, its shadow becomes larger. When an object moves further away from a light source, the shadow becomes smaller. We also discovered that light travels in straight lines, and shadows occur when a light source is blocked.
